New Bedford Festival Theatre Summer Academy 2022!
New Bedford Festival Theatre is planning its 2022 Summer Academy for local high school apprentices
and college-aged interns who will work side-by-side with theatre professionals in all areas of theatrical
production for this summer’s production of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
Students from New Bedford, Fall River, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Westport, Somerset, Swansea,
Mattapoisett, Marion and many other communities have taken part in this exciting program. The
Summer Academy will run from July 1 through August 7 (dates may vary slightly) and participants
receive a stipend or salary according to their level of involvement.
Many of our high school apprentices have gone on to further education in theatre at the
College/University level and attribute their desire for work in theatre to their experiences with the
Festival Theatre Summer Academy. Areas such as acting, stage crew, lighting, sound, costuming,
properties, stage management, and production office are part of the many interests students can be
involved in. College interns have performed in many productions and have gained experience working
with professional directors, choreographers, music directors and fellow performers.
Participants in the Summer Academy will work with Artistic Director, George Charbonneau; Assistant
Artistic Director, Dr. Elizabeth Bettencourt; nationally known director and choreographer, Diane DiCroce
and Andrew Winans; music director, Steve Bergman; master theatre technician, Shawn Elliott; Executive
Producer, Wendy Hall; along with several other theatre professionals.
(All interested high school students should complete the application form, and email a teacher
recommendation to email@example.com by May 27, 2022. Personal interviews will be scheduled on June 2 after application consideration.)
