New Bedford Festival Theatre Summer Academy 2021!
We are thrilled to offer the New Bedford Festival Theatre Summer Academy this year with two exciting workshops.
The first is To Broadway, With Love 2.0, a Musical Theatre performance workshop taught by Diane DiCroce, professor of Musical Theatre at Emerson College, and Juan Rodriguez, NBFT music director. In this three-week workshop, selected teens will be coached and mentored by Diane and Juan in a song chosen by the team from a future NBFT show. Coachings will take place via Zoom and students will have their final work showcased in an online pre-recorded performance, which will be aired in June. The workshop will take place May 10 - 28, 2021 over four sessions. The schedule will be released upon acceptance into the program. Applicants must be ages 14-18 and should submit a self-recorded video of 45-60 seconds of your vocal performance of any musical theatre song (accompaniment is preferred; free online tracks are totally okay to use!) to firstname.lastname@example.org See last year’s workshop for reference: NBFT Summer Academy 2020
The second offering of our 2021 Summer Academy is an exciting chance to be a part of our production of The Laramie Project. Teens ages 14-18 are invited to audition via Zoom on Tuesday, May 25 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Rehearsals will take place throughout June, both via Zoom and in-person (all Covid 19 precautions, including masking and social distancing, will be strictly upheld), culminating in two evening performances on June 25-26.
The Laramie Project explores the public reaction to the 1998 murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. The murder was denounced as a hate crime and brought attention to the lack of hate crime laws in various states, including Wyoming. Our production will be directed by Zara Lemieux, a student at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Once you’ve registered to audition for this workshop, further details regarding auditions and rehearsals will be forthcoming.
If you are interested in being considered for one or both of these, please fill out the Google form by April 29, 2021. SEE GOOGLE FORM
