My Fair Lady – Audition Information

New Bedford Festival Theatre will hold auditions for the Lerner & Loewe classic musical MY FAIR LADY in March of 2017. All parts are open. For an audition prepare a song from the musical. Please no pop, rock, folk or karaoke. Parts for singers, dancers and actors ages 16 – 70. The MY FAIR LADY cast is large and includes many opportunities for actors, dancers, and singers. MY FAIR LADY will be presented at The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, New Bedford MA for 7 performances July 21 – 30, 2017.

ELIZA DOOLITTLE – A cockney flower girl working outside Covent Gardens. Her potential to become a lady becomes the object of a bet between Higgins and Pickering.
Soprano (Middle C to high G). Age 18-30

HENRY HIGGINS – British, upper class professional bachelor, world famous phonetics expert, demanding teacher and author of Higgins Universal Alphabet. Baritone. Age 30-50

COLONEL PICKERING – Retired British officer and author of Spoken Sanskrit. A bit doddery, but quite friendly to both Eliza and Higgins. Baritone. Age 40-60

FREDDY EYNSFORD-HILL – Upper class young man who becomes smitten with Eliza.
Tenor/Baritone. Age 20-30

ALFRED P. DOOLITTLE – Eliza’s father, a vigorous dustman, a comic role. Baritone. Age 40-60

MRS. HIGGINS – Henry Higgins’ long-suffering mother. Age 50-70

MRS. PEARCE – Henry Higgins’ housekeeper. Alto/Mezzo. Age 40-60

HARRY – Drinking companion of Alfred Doolittle. Bass/Baritone. Age 20-40

JAMIE – Drinking companion of Alfred Doolittle. Tenor. Age 20-40

ZOLTAN KARPATHY – Hungarian linguistics expert, rival of Henry Higgins. Age 30-60

The following smaller supporting roles are geared for the mature performer (Age 40+) and will be considered Singer Tracks:


The Singing/Dancing Ensemble: Servants, Flower Girls, Bar Patrons, Buskers, Market Vendors, Patrons, Bystanders, Ascot Race Patrons, Embassy Ball Guests, Covent Garden Crowd, Tottenham Court Crowd, etc. All vocal ranges. Must have musical theatre dance abilities. Age 16-40.

All performers are contracted and receive a salary or stipend for their participation.

Not all performers are needed at every rehearsal. 10 am to 6 pm each day weeks 1 & 2 (Mon – Sat)
12 noon to 11 pm week #3 (Mon – Thurs) (Opening Night Friday, July 31, 2017)

Rehearsal period runs July 3 – 20, 2017. Rehearsal schedule TBA.

  • NEW ENGLAND THEATRE CONFERENCE: Crown Plaza Hotel, Natick, MA Saturday and Sunday, March 11 & 12 – By arrangement with NETC only. See NETC website for more information.
  • LOCAL NEW BEDFORD: Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, 684 Purchase St. New Bedford, MA Sunday, March 19; 11 am to 3 pm; All are asked to arrive by 10:30 for registration and preparation. Prepare song from show and be prepared to move/dance.
