Festival Theatre Celebrates Outstanding Year

New Bedford Festival Theatre’s “When You Wish Upon A Star”, a holiday celebration held recently at the Hawthorne Country Club, marked an outstanding year for the organization. The Moss Hart Memorial Trophy for the Best Production in the entire New England area awarded to HAIRSPRAY by the New England Theatre Conference, was on display as Mayor Jon Mitchell commented on the pride the city of New Bedford has in the continuing professionalism of New Bedford Festival Theatre.

The evening was marked by the presentation of awards and entertainment, John Michael Dias was honored with the Theatre Achievement award for his professional performing career, most notably the role of “Frankie Valli” in JERSEY BOYS which he performed nationwide. Mr. Dias, who is also known for his work in costume design, entertained with several vocal selections.

Also honored was Kevin Santos local restaurateur and real estate developer, was honored for his energetic and generous support of the performing arts.

Terese Cormies was honored as Volunteer of the Year for her dedication and hard word on behalf of Festival Theatre over the past decade.

The Corporate Sponsor Award was presented to BayCoast Bank for their constant support of Festival Theatre’s efforts.

The 2012 scholarship Award was given to Daniel Levin, a freshman at Bristol Community College for his outstanding efforts in Festival Theatre’s Apprentice Program over the past 3 years.
