For the 28th consecutive year, the New Bedford Festival Theatre is planning its 2017 Summer Academy for local high school apprentices and college aged interns who will work side-by-side with theatre professionals in all areas of theatrical production for this summer’s production of MY FAIR LADY.
Students from New Bedford, Fall River, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Westport, Somerset, Swansea, Mattapoisett, Marion and many other communities have taken part in the program. The Summer Academy will run from July 3 through July 30 and participants receive a stipend or salary for their involvement and level of involvement.
Many high school apprentices have gone to further education in Theatre on the College/University level and attribute their desire for work in theatre with their experiences with the Festival Theatre Summer Academy. Areas such as stage crew, lighting, sound, costuming, properties, stage management, and production office are part of the many interests students can be involved in. College interns have performed in many productions and have gained experience working with professional directors, choreographers, music directors and fellow performers.
