New Bedford Festival Theatre opened its year with a special fundraising event Friday, November 4 – RYDELL HIGH BAND STAND – an evening of fine food and fun entertainment, held onstage at UMD’s Angus Bailey Auditorium.
Special awards were presented to Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation (Philanthropy Award), Bettina Borders and Victor Mailey (Patrons of the Arts Award), and Adrian Tio (Theatre Achievement Award.) Award recipients were selected for their enduring support of Festival Theatre and its ongoing programs.
Fine foods were offered by the UMD Catering Service under the direction of Sean Rooney.
A special Cabaret “RYDELL HIGH BANDSTAND,” created and accompanied by Al Deston, entertined with the greatest hits of the 1950’s. The performers were Heather Bodnar, Kelsie Brejcha, Sarah Gifford, Mario Moniz, and Robin Weldon. Brian Bigelow was the percussionist. The Cabaret was staged and directed by Kathy Castro.
It is hoped that this will be the first of a variety of Cabarets and enjoyable fundraisers that will be offered by Festival Theatre in the coming year.
